Janos Novak-When the Abyss Stares Back

When the Abyss Stares Back is an odd collection of songs I have been working on between 2006 and 2009. Albeit the individual tracks are quite different, I feel they still belong together and tell a story.

After the melodic acoustic guitar lines of Decision, followed by the slightly melancholy-laden ambience of Shapeshifter Romance, the album ventures into more introspective territories and gets progressively darker and more electronic. The distant closing echoes of The Lake provide a gentle, almost cinematique transition between the acoustic world and the grand synthetic opening sounds of the title track. The album reaches its most majestic yet desolate moments during the slowly evolving circular chromatic structures of Red Desert Sunrise, then fades into the windy alien landscape.

Listen to it alone in the dark, preferably in the summer, under a starlit sky. http://www.archive.org/download/WhenTheAbyssStaresBack/WhenTheAbyssStaresBack_vbr_mp3.zip
